Townsville City Council

Townsville, Australia’s largest tropical city, is the focal point of the North Queensland region. The Townsville region extends from Mission Beach in the north, south to the Burdekin and west to Charters Towers. The region includes the former Thuringowa council which became part of Townsville during amalgamations in 2008. With a population of 150,000 in the region, Townsville is set to expand over the coming decades as more people move north to pursue the lifestyle that the region offers.

Townsville City Council – Waste Profile

  • 6 sites
  • 2 transfer stations, 2 landfills, 2 combined landfill and transfer stations

Before installing the Mandalay data capture and waste management software, Townsville City Council operated using a paper-based system and ‘guestimation’. The pitfalls of this paper-based system included the amount of time required to process and manage data, low data accuracy, and data visibility. Mandalay has worked with Townsville City Council to implement our CS system to address these issues and support Townsville to run a more effective waste management business.

As part of our work with Townsville we worked with them before and during Queensland council amalgamations during 2008 to streamline the amalgamated waste management business, including data amalgamation and historical data preservation projects.
